The Surprising Health Benefits of Tequila

Tequila, at least the good kind made from 100% agave, has been linked to weight loss, lower cholesterol and lower blood sugar. Sorry folks, this isn’t that cheap tequila you drank in your college days! If the tequila isn’t labeled 100% agave, it's probably mixed with non-agave sugars including cane sugar. Tequila — the good stuff — is labeled “100 Percent Agave,” “100 Percent Blue Agave” or “100 Percent Agave Azul".

Now more isn’t better when it comes to tequila (or any alcohol) but in moderation tequila is:

1. Good For Your Bones

According to research by a Mexican scientists, the plant from which tequila is made - the blue weber agave plant - contains substances that enhance the absorption of calcium and magnesium in the body

2. An Aid in Digestion

The agave plant contains high levels of inulin, which helps the digestive system by growing good bacteria.

3. A Link to Weight Loss

Agavins are the sugars which occur naturally in the agave plant - they are non-digestible which means they act as a dietary fibre and also support growth of healthful microbes in the mouth and intestines.
